My absolute favorite teaching ideas are the ones that come from my students. This week in the classroom while exploring the concept of tonality or the home tone or resting tone, one of my grade two classes came up with the idea of creating a character called "Mister Do" (pronounced "doh" as in do, re mi). We dug through my box of hand puppets and found this charming and fun fellow from Jamaica complete with dreadlocks who henceforth shall be called Mister Do. In our game, students have to sing "do" on pitch every time Mister Do opens his mouth. Who knew it could become such a fun, engaging and motivating activity!
